Boston Rope Artist Guild Presents: Tatu’s Way of the Rope

Tatu is an amazing presenter and rope artist, I met him first at Shibaricon several years ago. His classes are some of the must attend sessions at the event. With the Boston rope scene really taking off, I decided it would be great to bring him here to teach and share his style with everyone else.

The detail class description is pending, but now that space and travel for Tatu has been finalized, I wanted to spread the work about the event so people can save the date and make any travel arrangements they need.

Friday 22nd:

Meet and Greet starting at 7:00 leading in to a few hours of instruction wrapping up with a play party. The space we are in is great for rope play, huge heavy beams to use as anchor points and lots of room.

Saturday 23rd:

Giving a bit of time to recover from the fun Friday night, we start off classes around 10 , and go until evening. Plenty of breaks and time to practice what you are learning is scheduled in, With everything wrapping up around 7:00

Tickets for the event are $50, this includes the Friday evening classes and party as well as all day Saturday classes.

There is another open play party same night in same space but that is not included and will be another $10 if you wish to attend.

Attendance is limited to 40 people so that we can stay a hands on class.

I am currently working out on line ticket payments and that may include a minor extra fee to cover charges

Stay tuned here For more details coming ASAP

Eleventh Month, Eleventh Hour, Eleventh minute…

For my grandpa.. I miss you.

This poem was read at his funeral, he was Canadian Black Watch, there is not many of them from that time left, so very few.. So rather than the traditional Flanders Fields, I need to share this one. It means more given all that has happened since WWI and WWII.

I always thought of him on this day after I moved away from Vancouver, I usually made a point of calling him to see how the march and services went. I can’t do that any more, His number is still in my phone.. think it always will be, even if it goes no where

JUST A COMMON SOLDIER
(A Soldier Died Today)
by A. Lawrence Vaincourt

He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion, telling stories of the past.
Of a war that he had fought in and the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, every one.

And tho’ sometimes, to his neighbors, his tales became a joke,
All his Legion buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke.
But we’ll hear his tales no longer for old Bill has passed away,
And the world’s a little poorer, for a soldier died today.

He will not be mourned by many, just his children and his wife,
For he lived an ordinary and quite uneventful life.
Held a job and raised a family, quietly going his own way,
And the world won’t note his passing, though a soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great.
Papers tell their whole life stories, from the time that they were young,
But the passing of a soldier goes unnoticed and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of our land
A guy who breaks his promises and cons his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow who, in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his Country and offers up his life?

A politician’s stipend and the style in which he lives
Are sometimes disproportionate to the service that he gives.
While the ordinary soldier, who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal and perhaps, a pension small.

It’s so easy to forget them for it was so long ago,
That the old Bills of our Country went to battle, but we know
It was not the politicians, with their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom that our Country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger, with your enemies at hand,
Would you want a politician with his ever-shifting stand?
Or would you prefer a soldier, who has sworn to defend
His home, his kin and Country and would fight until the end?

He was just a common soldier and his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us we may need his like again.
For when countries are in conflict, then we find the soldier’s part
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor while he’s here to hear the praise,
Then at least let’s give him homage at the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say,
Our Country is in mourning, for a soldier died today.

Boston Rope Artist Guild meeting is Nov 19th

Just a reminder that next Boston Rope Artist Guild meeting is Nov 19th.

It does not matter if you are new or advance, want to to tie or be tied. Come along!

I will be running through rope basics in the first part of evening for anyone needing a primer.

Someone brought up some questions on list about using Bar ties so some investigation into that will be going on.

And myself will be seeing if we can suspend some people in a row and try for the Newton Cradle effect going :)

What else happens or is taught is up to the people that show up!!

It is held in a private space in Charleston, just before the event I will mail out directions to everyone who says they are or might be going to event

Click here and sign up http://fetlife.com/events/6618

Fee is $10 at the door to help cover cost of space.

Joys of WordPress and plugins..

I just noticed that my subscription feature had gone and uninstalled itself.. I prob mis-clicked something , but being perfect I blame the software..

Thankfully after figuring out which plug in was one I used, and reinstalling it.. everyone who was subscribed, still is.

So why this kinda meaningless post.. well it is thinly veiled attempt to test out if it is working ;)

CT Rollergirls:CTRG’s Yankee Brutals vs The Utica Clubbers

I have been to a few roller derby games in last few years and each time I have really enjoyed. Several weeks ago Radiantinrope and I went and saw Whip It, it was fun but formulaic movie that made us want to go see some roller derby.

Last night was the last bout of 2009 for the CT Rollergirls, so Radiantinrope and I met up and off to the derby.. After a brief stop for some jerk chicken to share in a truly whole in wall place we arrived.

There was signs everywhere “no photography”, we walked passed the press desk and sat down, after looking around… I decided to go up and see what I needed to do to get the press pass.. after filling out a form I had a sticker on my shirt “Press Photographer” :)

Now I start bitching about my camera, I wish I had a better telephoto that was nice and fast… out of about 300 shots I took here are a few of my favorites…
